Reclaimed timber sales & careful dismantling / Shipped nationwide

For a house that has to come down,
its beams and posts go on to the next house.

A timber-frame kominka that cannot be repaired is not rubbish. By careful dismantling we take out the beams, posts and fittings and send them across Japan as reclaimed timber. A house whose frame will last another 100 years, like a gassho-zukuri farmhouse, we buy and pass on to the next owner.

If you are looking for reclaimed timber

1 See the list Sizes, species and photos on LINE 2 Match the sizes We check drawings if you have them 3 Shipping Anywhere in Japan 4 Installation Toyama: our own team. Elsewhere: a local carpenter Outside Toyama, we first match sizes and joints with the carpenter at the destination

We keep beams, posts and fittings taken out by our own careful dismantling. A thick beam shown in the living room, old fittings as shop partitions. They work in new builds and in remodels. Stock changes, so tell us the size and use you are looking for first, and we send only what fits, with photos and prices.

In Toyama, Ishikawa and Hida, our own craftsmen also do the work that uses the timber. Elsewhere we only ship, and a carpenter in the destination prefecture does the installation. Every piece has its own size and joints, so if you have drawings we check them and agree the details with the carpenter before shipping. If this step is skipped, the timber may turn out unusable when it arrives.

If you are letting go of a timber-frame house

It is too far gone to live in, but the beams and posts are still strong. We do not bring such a house down and throw it away. We buy it and take it apart with care. Beams, posts and fittings are removed by hand, one by one, and go on to the next house as reclaimed timber. For a house with a usable frame, we do not subtract the demolition cost from the purchase price.

Where the timber frame itself is worth another 100 years, as in a gassho-zukuri farmhouse, we try first to pass the whole frame on to the next owner rather than take it apart. We look for people who want to move the house or build a guesthouse or shop on its frame, and we handle everything from careful dismantling to rebuilding.

Not every house qualifies. If most of the posts and beams are rotten, or the roof framing has fallen in, the timber cannot be used even with careful dismantling. In that case we tell you honestly and give you an appraisal that assumes clearing the land, plus a demolition quote. We can say which it is after we see the frame on site.

Build and repair with reclaimed timber

Reclaimed timber is not only for kominka. Put one exposed beam across the living room of a new house. Replace the entrance fittings with an old board door when remodelling. We also build and remodel houses, so from choosing the timber to design and construction there is one window. In Toyama, Ishikawa and Hida our own craftsmen do the work.

FAQ

What reclaimed timber do you have?+−

We keep beams, posts, fittings and other timber that we have taken out by careful dismantling. Stock changes, so we send you a list on LINE with sizes, wood species and photos. Tell us the size and use you are looking for first, and we show only what fits.

Can I buy from outside Toyama?+−

Yes. We can ship anywhere in Japan. Outside Toyama, however, a carpenter in the destination prefecture does the installation. We give you the joint details (how the pieces of wood are cut to fit together) and sizes first, and if you have drawings we check them before shipping.

How is the price decided?+−

By size, wood species and condition. The list shows a price for each piece. Shipping depends on distance and quantity, so once we know where it is going we give you a quote.

Will you buy the timber from my own house?+−

If the timber frame is sound, we buy the whole house and take it apart with care. A house whose frame will last another 100 years, like a gassho-zukuri farmhouse, we try first to pass on to the next owner. Please send photos of the outside and of the rooms where the beams and posts show, on LINE. The appraisal is free.

How is careful dismantling different from ordinary demolition?+−

Ordinary demolition brings the house down with heavy machinery and throws it away. In careful dismantling, beams, posts and fittings are removed by hand, one by one, without damage. It takes more work, but the timber is used in the next house, so for a house with a usable frame we can appraise without subtracting the demolition cost from the purchase price.

Photos are enough to start.

If you are looking for timber, tell us the use and sizes. If you are letting go of a house, send photos of the outside and of a room where the beams show. We take both on LINE.
