Using the akiya banks / Toyama, Ishikawa, Hida

This is where to look for houses.

Akiya banks are public listing services run by each municipality. We don't list houses on our own site. Instead we tell you where to look and how to read what you find. When a house catches your eye, send us the URL and we judge whether it can be repaired.

Municipal banks (examples)

Takaoka, Nanto, Uozu, Imizu and the other municipalities each have a bank too. Search for the municipality name plus 空き家バンク, or go through the prefectural portal above. Municipalities in Ishikawa and northern Gifu (Hida) run banks the same way.

Tips for reading a bank listing

  • The frame matters more than the age. A 1950s house with sound beams and posts can be repaired
  • What the photos don't show decides it: underfloor, roof space, foundation. Only a visit tells you
  • "Free" and "bargain" have reasons: demolition cost, tilting, a non-rebuildable lot. Find the reason first (when a "¥0" house is worth something if you don't demolish)
  • Always check whether the lot can be rebuilt on. Less than 2 m of road frontage means no rebuilding
  • Buying through the bank can add a municipal renovation grant
  • The listings are the tip of the iceberg. Houses exist before they reach the bank; telling the desk what you want is worth doing

FAQ

Can you search the akiya banks for me?+−

Tell us the area, budget and what you want to do, and we search the banks and the open market for houses that can be repaired. Start from the house-search page.

How do bank listings differ from an agent's?+−

These are houses the seller has registered with the municipality, and some are not on the open market. Prices tend to be modest. But most deals are as-is, with no warranty. That makes it all the more important to check the building carefully before buying — which is exactly why we recommend having someone come along to the viewing.

If I send a URL, do I have to buy?+−

No. Some of our answers are "leave this one". The point is to give you something to decide on, and there is no charge if you pass.

Good houses are still out there

Found one? Send it to us.

Just the listing URL is enough. We tell you whether it can be repaired and whether it is worth a visit.
